Biography
Growing up in Perth suburbia as the only child to two literary and musical parents, Grace Trainor’s childhood soundtrack consisted of CDs blasting on every car trip, Dad’s record collection, and reading aloud with Mum every night.
The instilling of a creative spirit in Grace was thus inevitable. Her love for theatre was sparked with the very first major role: the angel Gabriel in her kindergarten nativity play—which then flourished into Friday classes at Stagecoach Performing Arts every week for seven years. It was during this time that she had absolutely set her mind on musical theatre, with Sunday classes at WAAPA naturally becoming an addition to her weekly schedule. She also performs musically, having learnt the trumpet since she was eleven and writing her own songs sat by the piano often.
NIDA was always the goal for Grace, so a place in the Diploma of Musical Theatre in the 2025 cohort and moving her life from Perth to Sydney was confirmation that her passion and perseverance was paying off. The course saw her working with Dean Dreiberg (resident director of “Hamilton”); on the musical “Nine”, as well as Darren Yap (resident director of “Hadestown”) on their end of year Musical Theatre Showcase.
