Biography
A veteran theatre actor, Lorenz Martinez’s inherent gift of quick comic timing and tenor singing voice has enthralled scores of audiences as witnessed in his myriad of comedies and musical performances both locally and Internationally. He reprised his role as Ra in the Sandbox Collective rerun of “Dani Girl” and concluded his role as Dr. Tombourri in the critically acclaimed musical “Passion”.
Recent works also include Repertory Philippines’ “A Comedy of Tenors” where Lorenz played dual roles of Tito Mirelli and Beppo that garnered Gawad Buhay citation for the Best Actor category. He closed the repeat run of “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” at Resorts World Manila as the lead Caractacus Potts; reigned over the stage as King Arthur in “Spamalot”; essayed the role of Manama & First Man in Ballet Philippines’ rock opera ballet “Tales of the Manuvu”; played the larger-than-life Juan De Zumarraga in “Guadalupe: The Musical” as well as repeat runs of the PETA hit musical “Rak of Aegis” and “Binondo: A Tsinoy Musical”.
Lorenz international credits include the Netherlands production of “Miss Saigon”—being the youngest to perform the role of The Engineer; The Rogers & Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” Asian Tour (King Cover); a pioneer as improvisational comedic actor and voice talent for the “Stitch Encounter” show in Hong Kong Disneyland, and Atlantis Singapore Production of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” (William Barfee).
Lorenz made his Philippine Theater debut in “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” in Repertory Philippines. Among his Repertory Theater credits include “Camelot” (Ensemble); “Evita” (Ensemble); “Fame” (Joe Vegas); Elaine May & Alan Arkin's Trilogy of One-act Plays “Power Plays” (Lefty & Harry); Neil Simon's “God’s Favorite” as rebellious prodigal son David Benjamin & Morris; Rep original “Miong” as the quick-stepping French Reporter; “The Secret Garden” (Archibald Craven); “The Baker’s Wife” (Antoine); “The Wiz” (The Gate Keeper); “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” (Hero); “Man of La Mancha” (Ensemble); “Noises Off” (Gary) and lastly, his remarkable performance as Judas Iscariot in “Jesus Christ Superstar”.
Other notable performances have been the British Council & Dulaang UP's “Crave (C)”; Trumpet’s “Fables and Parables”; “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” (Maugrim the Wolf); “Honk” (Bullfrog); Atlantis Production of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” (Cogsworth); Shrek the Musical” (Lord Farquaad); 9Works Theatrical’s “The Wedding Singer”; “Rent” (Benny); “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” (Snoopy); “They’re Playing Their Song” (Vernon Gersh); Upstart Production’s “Forbidden Broadway”; “Into the Woods” (Baker); Resorts World Manila’s production of “The Sound of Music” (Herr Zeller); “The King and I” (Lun-Tha); the Greenwings Production of “Lorenzo” (Lorenzo Ruiz); the international production of “50 Shades! The Musical Parody” (Christian Gray) and Musicartes’ “Godspell”.
Lorenz also regularly performs in Corporate Events, records for Radio Ads and appears in Television & Film. He ended a three-year run of the TV Sitcom “Vampire ang Daddy Ko” in GMA as the mainstay villain vampire Bam, appeared in two critically acclaimed films “Hari Ng Tondo” as Emil and “Heneral Luna” as Gen. Tomas Mascardo as well as part of the new ABS-CBN historical war TV series “A Soldier’s Heart”.
