Biography
Nova Raboy is an immigrant from the Philippines who is an accredited Fertility/Family Life Educator here in Australia. She also works as a Volunteer Coordinator in the Aged Care Sector. She had her debut performance as a professional actor in Australia for the in-development showcase of a play entitled “Hanap”, by Rizcel Gagawanan and Mark Mariano for Blacktown Arts Centre’s “Magnify” 2023.
She made her Downstairs Belvoir debut for the 25A Season in the two-hander musical play entitled “Forgetting Tim Minchin” by Jules Orcullo in July of 2023. This marked her first full-length professional production. The show, as well as Nova’s performance received incredible reviews.
Nova’s most recent theatre credit was playing the role of Norminda in Jordan Shea’s new documentary work and was directed by Kenneth Moraleda. She played the role of a community leader who was passionate and committed in preserving the ‘memories’ of the elderly whilst her own mother is suffering from dementia. Nova played the role with such warmth and sensitivity at the Nielsen Gallery inside the Sydney Theatre Company.
Nova’s is part of the short film “Homecoming” by Jackson Philipps where she played a challenging and pivotal role.
She was also a part of the short film “Santa Niña” by Nicole Cadelina which focused on the tumultuous relationship between two Filipina women in Western Sydney.
Her latest film credit was playing the role of a 60+ year-old woman in the short film “Year of the Snake” by Deborah Faye-Lee and Katherine Nheu. In this film, Nova was the ‘alpha’ of a ‘tight knit’ group of aunties bound by friendship and routine.
Nova is living her childhood dream of working as an actor. She hopes to empower women of any age, people of colour and anyone from a marginalized community to believe in themselves and to pursue their dream.
